Yin Yoga Workshop
NOURISH THE MIND, BODY & SOUL
Online Workshop led by Marcela Hughes
Yoga Teacher (RYT-500) and Mindfulness Meditation Instructor
In this workshop, you will learn how to combine the practice of Yin Yoga and mindfulness meditation to create possibilities for transformation and healing on all levels—body, mind, and heart. Yin yoga is a slow and meditative style of yoga. Yin yoga consists of a series of passive floor poses that are typically held for 3-5 minutes. These poses help relieve stress and tension that build up in the body. Yin Yoga works to promote ease, fluidity, and flexibility.
One of the benefits of Yin Yoga is that it helps to increase the body’s range of motion. As we age, we lose our full range of joint mobility and our fascia tightens. A consistent Yin Yoga practice helps to regain mobility and ease pain in the body. When we hold a Yin pose for several minutes, we are working beneath the muscles to target the deep connective tissues of the body. As a result, the body will slowly respond by letting go of built-up tension. After a one-hour session, you might feel as if you’ve had a massage.
Yin is an introspective practice that offers a chance to turn inward. It is a practice in stillness, patience, and non-reactivity. This practice gives you the time and space to steady the mind, reduce stress or anxiety, and cultivate calmness, clarity, and equanimity.
This workshop will consist of a 90-minute Yin Yoga practice with interactive discussion plus a 30-minute guided meditation session. There will be time for Q&A at the end of the workshop.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
I learned early in my yoga experience that there was much more to yoga than just the physical practice. Yoga gave me a sense of calmness and clarity. Through the dedicated practice of yoga, I felt grounded, balanced and stronger, both physically and emotionally. This inspired me to begin teaching yoga in 2012, later completing my 500-hour training. Additionally, I am a certified Yin Yoga Teacher. I was honored to be at the filming of Yin Yoga: The Functional Approach by Paul Grilley. This is a wonderful comprehensive online certification program for yoga instructors. I also completed a 50-hour Yin Yoga & Mindfulness Meditation Module with Josh Summers. This training gave me the tools and knowledge to integrate meditation into my teaching of Yin Yoga.
